Fabric Games

For our meeting, we will do our "business meeting" and show and tell first so we can engage with our Zoom audience.   After this we will start fabric games.   Because there isn't a great way to do this virtually, this will only be in person.    So, please plan to attend in person.    Additionally, please bring binder clips or something you can temporarily mark a card for a bingo game.     (If you have any decks of cards, that would also be appreciated).    
  Q3 Challenge - Nostalgia
Create a quilted item that is a throwback to your childhood.   This challenge is more free-from and storytelling.   This could be a childhood toy, movie, or even your mother's dishes.

About the Artist: Kena Dorsey is coming to us all the way from Los Angeles, California. She is originally from the Pittsburgh area however, and we are thrilled to be able to highlight a quilter from our region. Kena will share a vibrant selection of her quilts and creative works, rooted in African traditions, symbolism, and storytelling. This trunk show offers an inspiring look at her design process, materials, and how she merges tradition with innovation through textile art. Additionally, she will be giving a workshop on the Saturday before the trunk show with us. You can see more of her work on her Instagram account here.

WORKSHOP

Saturday, July 12 at 9:30 - 3:30 pm

Time: 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM (6 hours + lunch break)

Includes: Workshop, Table Runner Kit (pattern and fabric) and Lunch

 Project Overview
In this immersive workshop, participants will create an African-Inspired Symbol Table Runner (102"x19") featuring three traditional Ghanaian Adinkra symbols, each representing cultural and philosophical ideas. Participants will have the option to adapt or expand the design into a full quilt if desired. This workshop is open to quilters, sewists, and fiber enthusiasts of all experience levels—beginners welcome!

 What Makes It Unique
Kena’s workshops are rooted in storytelling, heritage, and creative exploration. Using authentic African wax prints, she guides participants through symbolic design work.
Each person will receive a project kit including three exchangeable Adinkra symbols (selected from a set of nine)—inviting creative freedom while connecting to tradition.
