Walking Foot Workshop
from PGHMQG and Folk Quilts Studio
Discover the versatility of your sewing machine's walking foot while learning how to create beautiful, modern quilting designs without a longarm machine. In this hands-on workshop, students will explore a variety of walking foot quilting motifs—including straight-line, organic, geometric, and curvilinear designs—that add texture, movement, and personality to quilts.
The workshop emphasizes design principles, thread selection, spacing, marking techniques, and building confidence in free-motion alternatives using only a walking foot. Participants will practice each quilting motif on prepared quilt sandwiches before applying their favorite designs to a small finished project or sampler.
This class is appropriate for confident beginners through experienced quilters who want to expand their machine quilting skills. By the end of the workshop, students will leave with a reference sampler of quilting designs, greater confidence in finishing their own quilts, and the inspiration to view the walking foot as a powerful creative tool—not just a utility attachment.
