Quilt Math Presentation
Rose presenting quilt math.
The monthly presentation was on quilt math, courtesy of Rose. From block size to quilt size, there’s a lot to consider. She ran us through calculating for backing, with an informative foray into the choice of seam direction when you send it to a longarmer. We compared common bed sizes and typical drops (and lesser-known tuck!). Consideration was given to block resizing methods, common multiples, and base-grid units. Rose gave us formulas for calculating binding and backing, and shared a link for the Kaufman Quilt Calculator. Membership finished up by working in teams on quilt math activities. It was thorough and informative. Let us know if you need any links or slides!

February 2025 Make It Fit
The February member meeting topic was pattern fitting. Our own Cheralee Stover gave an overview of 3 different quilted jacket patterns, and broke down how to identify fit issues and their solutions. Many of us find sewing clothes daunting. Humans aren’t flat, after all.
Our upcoming workshop on quilted jackets is a popular project among quilters. She demonstrated common measurements to take for garments and how those measurements transferred to pattern pieces. If you’re going to cut into a quilt, you want to know you’ll get a good result.
The slides are available in the members section of the website. They include the guides to choosing an alteration and the video links with demonstrations.
Remember - your machine doesn’t know what you’re making, so you can make a garment.

General Meeting 2025
It’s not the catchiest of post titles, but the General Meeting is where big things happen. We have our elections, wrap up the year’s challenges, make big announcements and plot the course for the next year. Check out the news below…
We’re happy to announce the new officers for 2025!
President: Nicole
Programs: Rose
Membership: Connie
Treasurer: Cheralee
Social Media: Jennifer
We also now have online payment!!! It was a long time coming, but the 2024 officers are pleased to say that you can now make online payments for any of the current activities on the website. Quick reminder: Quilted Jacket Workshop Tara Faughnan Activities 2025 Guild Retreat We are using the Zeffy service. Zeffy is a non-profit FOR non-profits, so they solicit a percentage on the transactions to cover their own costs. The guild isn’t charged for transactions and neither are you. The percentage is automatically added, but it is 100% optional. You can change the percentage at any time before completing your purchase to whatever amount you choose. That may mean $0.00 and that’s fine. Please see the example below.
The next upcoming deadline is 01/31/2025, the last day to register for the Quilted Jacket website. We have openings, so if you care considering making quilted clothing, this workshop might be for you! February’s programming will cover general fitting for the upper body to support the workshop.

2025 Q1 Challenge
The Q1 Challenge will be Alternate Grids. The MQG is also offering additional content on this topic and we’ll be sharing that in meetings and on social media.
Wrapping up 2024
Last but not least, we drew the name for the annual prize. In 2024, we issued over 1525 tickets for participating in challenges, tackling meeting programming, helping with committees and activities, posting on social media and being a part of Show & Tell. Cheralee created a spreadsheet with each member’s name listed by the corresponding number of tickets they earned. One ticket = one line, fifty tickets = equaled 50 lines on the sheet, etc. Michele used a random number generator online to pick a specific line on the spreadsheet and the winner was Vivian B! Congratulations! The prize can go towards retreat costs or a quilting-related gift certificate. Members collectively earned 545 tickets in the UFO challenge, completing 109 UFOs! That’s amazing! We’re so happy to see so many beautiful projects move to the “Done” column.
