Community Outreach

The following are community outreach opportunities that have been brought to our attention. It is no way an exhaustive list and will continue to evolve. Please email us if you hae any other suggestion for community outreach.

  • Volunteer Project: Lap Quilts for Cancer Patients

Cut and Sew Studio is looking for students who already know how to quilt (and quilt at home) who would like to partake in a quilting service project.  Related to the dignity gowns that they are making for the Mckeesport Hospital, the fabric scraps leftover are going to be used to make lap quilts (small quilts) for cancer patients at the hospital.  The quilt design is yours to decide, but all fabric/batting etc will be provided.  This will not be a formal class done at the studio, you would pick up the supplies and work on it at home as you find time and then return to the studio.  The details are not completely finalized, but they wanted to reach out and see who might want to be involved with this project.

  • Quilts Beyond Borders

From their site: “Quilts Beyond Borders reaches out to under-served children, mainly orphans, across the world to provide a handmade quilt and spread love and hope.”
They accept donations of pieced tops, fabrics, money and volunteer time. Follow the link for complete information as to specific sizes and needs.

  • The Shelter Quilt Project for East End Cooperative Ministries

The East End Cooperative Ministries  are currently building a Community House and are seeking volunteers to help complete quilts for 36 shelter beds and 14 respite care beds.

Ways to helps:
They are currently looking for people interested in quilting the tops that have been previously made. Quilts can be hand or machine quilted. The tops are 60" X 90". Quilts need to be completed by early 2013. They currently have at least 20 tops in need of quilting.

This project may still be looking for tops and whole quilts made of 100% preshrunk cottons. If you are interested in making a top or quilt it will need to be 60" X 90".

If you are interested in getting involved please contact Stefani Danes by email.
