Who we are
We are the Pittsburgh Modern Quilt Guild, a Guild serving the Greater Pittsburgh area. Our roots are based in tradition, but the overall look of our quilts are defined by the national Modern Quilt Guild standards. The purpose of this blog is to stay connected with local MQG members, other branch guilds, and anyone interested in modern quilting. We meet the first Sunday of every month from 1:00-4:00pm, unless conflicted with a holiday or other conflict with our host site, the Pittsburgh Project. The Pittsburgh Project is located at 2801 North Charles Street  Pittsburgh, PA 15214.

We always welcome visitors to our meetings! Quilters of all skill levels are welcome to join us. Please feel free to bring some of your work to show off during the "show and tell" portion of the meeting. If you would like to look at our work, please visit our Flickr account. Anyone can join this group, but only members are able to post photos.

PGH MQG Mission and Vision
The mission of the guild is to create a positive community of modern quilters interested in sharing knowledge of modern quilting techniques, patterns, modern fabrics, and quilt making. Fellowship will be encouraged through regular meetings, social gatherings, workshops, lectures, field-trips, community outreach and education, and other selected activities that encourages modern quilt-making and promotes an appreciation of this specific craft.

What our meetings are like
We aim to be less business-like and focus on growing as modern quilters. We try to limit the amount of time we spend on business at our monthly meetings in order to provide as much time as possible for guest speakers, demos, sew-a-longs, and whatever else comes our way. It's our goal to create a relaxed, positive environment where creating and growing as quilters is encouraged.

Membership perks
The biggest perk to membership in the Pgh MQG is connecting with other people who share a passion for quilting and the modern quilting movement. As a member you can look forward to meeting each month with like minded individuals to share tips, advice, and feedback on your projects. If your significant other glazes over when you mention half square triangles, never fear, we never will.

However! There are some tangible benefits as well. Membership to the Pittsburgh Modern Quilt Guild also includes membership into the nationwide Modern Quilt Guild. Perks of membership in the MQG include:
  • Membership card and pin
  • Members only access to the MQG site, including monthly webinars and a member's forum
  • Access to fabric challenges
  • Free monthly patterns
  • Discounts and special offers with MQG sponsors and affiliated companies
  • Early registration and discounts for QuiltCon, the MQG conference with a quilt show, classes, and lectures
  • more!
Additionally, as a member of the guild you can receive a VIP card from JoAnn Fabrics to receive a 10% discount by filling out the information here. Once you receive your card in the mail you will need to present a photo ID and your MQG membership card to a sales associate to activate the card.

Congrats on getting on the MQG blog. I will be sure to feature it once it is up!
